translation

so at this point in my fibers career I have a fluency between what I dream up in my head and what I create with my hands. This little dollie is no exception--I whipped her up earlier this week simply because I felt like it (she will be making an apperance shortly in my etsy shop). I thought I'd share a little tidbit of my process, a look into how my drawings/patterns translate into plush.

essentially I do a life size drawing of what I want to make and use that as a pattern!

so there you have it--a sweet little dollie that helps little ones practice zippering and buttoning!

From the studio in Vermont...

the first project I whipped up in my new studio space!

A few years back I made block-printed tote bags for Christmas gifts for my family. My grandma happened to have her totebag with her last week when visiting this shop. The shopowner liked it so much that she wanted me to make some for her store. So I set about to printing (this time screen-printing since it is much faster!). My little table is perfectly sized to print by covering it with an towel to make it padded. I am now working on printing a second colorway and making more bags & aprons. Not bad for my first week in town!

the new place (after!)

So this is where its at--my new space in Vermont that is cute cute cute. Not to mention that I love living someplace that is quiet(it is located in a quaint little neighborhood) and it has great features like a washer and dryer (no more laundromat for me--hooray!)

lets start with quite possibly my favorite part--these great shelves I got at an antique store (conveniently located just down the road from my new place) which now house (most) of my fabric collection.

I also scored this precious bookshelf at the same place.

At another antique shop I discovered this little gem--a wonderful drop leaf table that has already come in handy for screen-printing (more on that in another post!)

my typewriter even has its own little place! also 15 foot ceilings are wonderful.

the new place (before)

I am now located a whole 1,100 miles north of Savannah in a cute little one bedroom apartment in Vermont. I was lucky enough to move in on a day when it wasn't raining(which it has done most days since I've been here) but not so lucky that it was the hottest day yet this year (nearly 90 degrees and no air conditioning!). This is my little place before I moved in all of my cute stuff...

where to start

Well the last few weeks have been CRAZY. I only finished college, graduated summa cum laude, entertained the 11 guests who came to town for the event, packed up an apartment, drove 1,100 miles, unpacked (well in the process) in a new place, and made time to spend with dear friends before the big move. A lot to fit into such a tiny amount of time. I am thoroughly exhausted but hopefully I will be getting around to sharing more details (and photos) from my last weeks in the south! But this is about all I can muster up for now.
