It's December. How did that happen already?? To celebrate this fact here is a little something I will be doing for the next twelve days on my blog---12 Days of Cheer: Twelve How-to Projects for the Holiday Season! So without further ado here is day one...
What you need:
-wool felt
-wool roving yarn
-paper template
-chalk for marking
-sharp tapestry needle
-embroidery needle
-24" of embroidery floss
-7" of baker's twine
-kapok for stuffing
How-to:
1. Make a paper template of the snowflake embroidery design and the scalloped shape that you will cut out of felt. Mine looks like this:
2. Using template as a guide, cut 2 out of felt. On one, use chalk to mark out the snowflake design.
3. Thread the tapestry with a length of wool roving yarn and embroider the snowflake ( I used a back stitch)
this is what mine looked like on the front and back when I was finished
4. Now you need the second felt piece. Stack the two on top of one another, embroidered piece on top.
5. Thread the embroidery need with embroidery floss and do a running stitch around the edge to attach the two pieces. Stop when you have gone around five of the six points.
6. Stuff with kapok.
7. Once stuffed, put bakers twine hanger in at the top (make sure to catch it in your stitching so that it is firmly attached to the ornament). Finishing stitching around the last point.
8. Ta-da! You now have a lovely ornament!
