This fall I started teaching at a private school--a very small school with 16 students where I teach intermediate French to a class of four teenage boys and then a calligraphy/art/bookmaking class with all the students. Their year is split up into trimesters (this is the last week of the first one) and starting next week I will be teaching baking instead of art. To wrap up the trimester I had each of the kids make a book as their final project to incorporate their calligraphy. I learned a lot in this first little foray into teaching and I hope the kids did too--so don't mind me while I shamelessly show off my students' work.
Although I have enjoyed teaching, I am so incredibly glad that I don't have to continue teaching art to these kids. I found that very few of them were enthused by the idea of calligraphy and bookmaking but baking---well everybody likes food so I have a feeling that I will have some more willing participants in that class.
