For some reason quite a few shoppers at the artist market think I'm a puppeteer. Let's get one thing straight, I love making puppets but I'm no puppeteer. I love seeing how other people respond and interact with the things I make. It is so much fun to see how something that comes from my imagination can spark imagination in other people. How someone chooses to animate one of my creations is always amusing, and its different for every person, which I think is key. The things I make are meant for interactive, open-ended, and imaginative play. I provide the starting point for other people's creativity. If I were the puppeteer then I wouldn't leave room for other people to use their own imagination. And that's that.
You can now find two new puppets in my etsy shop. Foxy Loxy and a little Lion.
I had a custom request for a brunette learn-to-dress dollie with a pink/orange outfit. To make the most of my crafty time I made two dollies, one which is now in my etsy shop. She got lots of compliments at the artist market on Saturday, but didn't sell (yet). I'm glad I finally had a use for the pink and orange vintage floral fabric--I have a yard and a half and have been hoping for a perfect project for it. I also realized that my stash of orange fabrics is seriously lacking which means there might have to be a fabric shopping trip in my near future. I love that my business is a fantastic excuse for my fabric collecting.
Yesterday I finished up making 50 finger puppets and some more star wands...
Today I am on to making learn-to-dress dollies and hopefully some pop-up puppets too! I am totally in the making in multiples mindset and I am hoping to get quite a few more things finished before Saturday.
It seems that I can never quite keep up with the demand for finger puppets at the artist market! So, I make several finger puppets every week. I like to have around 50 or so at the ready for customers so there is a good variety and selection. Although, I have found that too many can overwhelm them with choices and too few doesn't give them the chance to mix and match to create the perfect set. I sell them individually at the market, while on-line I sell them by the set of five. I have added to my finger puppet repertoire this summer to keep things a little more interesting. New designs include pandas, foxes, bunny rabbits, and even little people.
I have yet to do my quota for this week, as I am hoping to make some bigger items first. I'll keep you posted on my progress!
